A powerful netbook – the Lenovo IdeaPad S12

July 29, 2011

Ultraportable netbooks are great if you need a laptop that you can carry with you just about anywhere. Until now we have all believed that due to their small size we will never have a powerful mini laptop. All this becomes simple superstition if we take a quick look at the most powerful netbook in the world today.

Probably one of the most powerful netbooks available to costumers all over the world today is the Lenovo IdeaPad s12. It is the first Nvidia Ion chipset based netbook ever released. Thanks to this it is also the first netbook that can actually really play 1080p HD content. You can use the 12 inch screen of the netbook to view movies in Full HD or you may prefer to connect your small netbook to a Full HD TV set through a HDMI connection. This new laptop will also decently run most new games. This is great for people who want a small portable laptop but are not able to quit gaming at anytime.

The Nvidia Ion platform is far superior to all Intel solutions for netbooks and will let you have a basic gaming computer (do not be to enthusiastic about it, you will be able to play 2009 games at low detail). On the other hand it gives us the first of many (we hope) HD capable netbooks. Hopefully Intel will respond with an even more performing solution (that is what the free trade market is supposed to be about, is it not?).

The Ideapad S12 is the first Lenovo 12.1-inch netbook, weighs less than 1.5 kilos and is equipped with a WXGA (1,280 x 800) resolution LED-backlit panel, a great choice for the netbook’s monitor. Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom CPU was the only component that made us sigh. A more performing processor would have been very appropriate for the first full HD Nvidia Ion netbook. The mini-laptop has 1GB of DDR2 system memory. You will be able to choose between a 160/250/ or 320GB HDD. You will also have the choice to go for a 3 cell battery or a 6 cell battery. The Ideapad S12 is also equipped with the standard devices you would expect to find on a netbook: an Ethernet jack, WiFi, Bluetooth, USB 2.0 sockets (3), Express Card slot, and a 4-in-1 card reader.

If you need a small laptop, but want it to give you good performance the most powerful netbook in the world is a good choice (and costs less than 500$). There are other options on the market for people who want to buy a good gaming mini laptop, but for more power you need to invest more money.
